Pain Au Chocolat
I’m getting ready for the premier of “Paris Is Always A Good Idea” coming to Hallmark plus! This series starring Lacey Chabert is based on the book of the same title, and is sure to be a whirlwind story full of fun, food and romance! To kick things off, I made a short cut version of pain au chocolat to enjoy while watching the series!
Ingredients:
-pre-made, refrigerated puff pastry sheets (2 rolls)
-2 bars dark chocolate
-1 egg
Directions:
-Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Roll out the puff pastry from the wrapping, it should be a rectangle. Cut 4 rows length wise across dough to create 4 long strips.
With a serrated knife, carefully cut (in a gentle sawing motion) chocolate bars to create chocolate “French fries”.
Before rolling up the first strip of dough, place one stick of chocolate on dough and roll a couple times. Add one more stick of chocolate and then roll dough all the way to the end. Chocolate should be seen at the end but not sticking out past the dough.
Each strip of dough will have two sticks of chocolate each.
Once you have rolled them all, place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Place in fridge for 20 minutes so the butter hardens back up again in the layers of dough.
Next, beat an egg in a bowl and brush the egg wash all over the top and sides of the dough. Bake at 400 degrees for 25-28 minutes until golden and shiny.
Best served with a cup of cappuccino! Enjoy!
